Forcing Affixa to Send Debug Information

If something goes wrong, Affixa will do one of two things:

  • Where the problem isn’t a bug or is outside Affixa’s control, it will present you with an error message telling you about the problem;
  • Where the problem is one that Affixa wasn’t expecting and is likely to be bug, it will ask you to send the details of the error to us.

Very occasionally, we may ask you to provide further information about a problem you’re experiencing. We do this by forcing the software to behave as if it has encountered a bug (even though it might not have, in reality).

Steps to follow

  1. Download ForceDebug.zip
  2. Extract the zip file to your computer
  3. Double-click “ForceDebug”. You will be asked whether you are sure you want to continue. Click “Yes”.
  4. Then use Affixa in the way that has been giving you problems. This time, you should be prompted to send details to us when the problem arises. Please choose the option saying “send the full details of everything that happened”, enter the email address you’ve used previously to correspond with us on the problem, and then click “Report This”.
  5. Double-click “TurnOffDebug”. You will be asked whether you are sure you want to continue. Click “Yes”.

Live Debugging

If the application is freezing rather than giving some kind of error message, you may need to follow these alternate instructions:

  1. Download ForceDebugConsole.zip
  2. Extract the zip file to your computer
  3. Double-click “ForceDebugConsole”. You will be asked whether you are sure you want to continue. Click “Yes”.
  4. Then use Affixa in the way that has been giving you problems. A window will pop up and give live debugging information.
  5. When the freeze happens, please try and copy and paste all the content of the pop-up window into an email to us. If this isn’t possible because of the freeze, a screenshot of this window is the next-best option.
  6. Kill the Affixa process if necessary.
  7. Double-click “TurnOffDebugConsole”. You will be asked whether you are sure you want to continue. Click “Yes”.
